Golden edge on existence
Ann Mogliani fell in love with Mallorca in 2014, and seven years ago, she had straightened out her life to the point where she could move down full-time. She bought a townhouse in Palma which is currently undergoing a major renovation designed by herself. Today she has a very organized life in the sun. In the mornings, she works on various house and interior design projects and in the afternoons, she dedicates herself to her artistry, which is in constant development.
– Mallorca has everything! The light here on the island is absolutely fantastic, she says. To be inspired and fascinated by everything the island has to offer is a blessing. She adds that the Tramuntana mountain range has always been a great source of inspiration for artists.
Ann has a house in the mountains overlooking the sea where she is on weekends. – I have the best of both worlds. City life during the week and the tranquillity of the mountains in Valldemossa during the weekends.
As an artist, Ann Mogliani does not want to end up in any box, but the wild, brave and innovative modernist movement during the turn of the 18th and 20th centuries fascinates and inspires: the surrealists, the Dadaists and other absinthe-pimpling painters from the time around 1900 were dissenting, fearless and innovative.
– I have studied them thoroughly and most of my inspiration comes from there, she says. The characters in her work are expressive to say the least as Ann uses different expressions such as paintings, sculptures, reliefs and drawings, just like the moder- nists did. With small strokes, she manages to bring her paintings to life and she is not afraid to take the turns.
– I follow my inner compass and go my own way. My core is my DNA as ”Sapmi”. My goal is to see my heritage and present at the same time. My inner world is what you see in my art. The woman is often at the center of my art, whether it is a portrait or a clay sculpture. I often paint my sculptures to give them an additional dimension. She herself can now call herself a full-time artist, but it has taken time to get to that point. The interest has always been there, but fate had other plans.
